Summer camp for youngsters with hearing difficulties will be the subject debated at the March meeting of Hear.

The meeting will be held at the Forest Community and Senior Center on Monday, March twenty-two, at two pm Leading the display about Lions Wasteland Camp for Deaf Kids will be Franklin Anderson, Lions Board VP of Camp Ross Relles near Nevada City.
The Lions Services for Kids Projects addresses wishes for kids in disadvantaged circumstances, providing food and clothing, wheelchairs for the disabled, and vision and hearing screening. Deaf and hard-of-hearing children regularly lack social opportunities that other kids enjoy due to communication problems. At Camp Ross Relles, the deaf and hard-of-hearing may enjoy camping with their peers in a setting particularly designed for youngsters with hearing difficulties.
Other local efforts related to kids and hearing difficulties include the Forest Reveille Lions Club support of Hear. In securing hearing tests for Forest pre-school kids.
Of the 103 Forest pre-schoolers tested in 2009, 7 failed the hearing test and were referred to their doctor for further exam, according to Clare Childers of Hear. Early identification of hearing issues can help elders and teachers identify special needs to guarantee the development of language talents in youngsters.
